Health Insurance?

Do you have medical health insurance? Private Healthcare at Newcastle Hospitals is recognised by all of the leading medical insurers, however your policy may restrict where you can be treated. Please check the terms and conditions of your policy with your provider or broker first to ensure you are able to access our services and that you have adequate cover before you commit to having any procedures.

Our Private Patient team will be happy to assist with any queries you may have. We will seek authorisation with your insurer for any treatments and/or tests you have as a private patient at Newcastle Hospitals, but ultimately it is your responsibility to ensure you have cover.

We have an arrangement with most insurers to invoice directly to them. However if your Consultant sends their bill to you, please send this on to your insurer as soon as possible. If we are unable to verify your insurance details or get authorisation, then you will be required to pay a deposit equal to the cost of your treatment, prior to admission.

Self Pay Information

No Medical insurance? – not a problem!

Going into hospital can be a worrying prospect at the best of times, but if you are paying for yourself, your anxieties can be increased if you are unsure about how much your treatment is going to cost.

We make it even easier for patients to access the exceptional quality of private health care provided Newcastle Hospitals, with self-pay packages.

A self-pay package gives patients peace of mind by providing details in advance of exactly how much treatment will cost. All self-pay packages include surgery, prosthesis, nursing care, accommodation, patient meals, in-patient physiotherapy, medication while in hospital, plus 3 days take home medication, and removal of stitches (if required).

Our friendly team can advise patients on a “guide price” even if they have not yet been seen by a consultant. However, a referral letter from your GP will be required before an appointment with a consultant can be arranged (except for Cosmetic Surgery). For further information please contact the Business Office on 0191 282 0592 or 282 0593

What is a fixed cost package?

Newcastle Hospitals Private Healthcare offers a number of procedures (for variety of specialties including, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Cosmetic Surgery, Urology and Neurosurgery) under the fixed cost scheme. Treatment under fixed cost may be subject to pre-assessment.

If you decide to go ahead with treatment under this scheme, we then ask you to let us have payment before admission. We accept leading credit cards (apart from American Express and Diners), debit cards or cash. Payment by personal cheque will be by prior arrangement and requires 10 working days to clear.

This package is offered at our discretion and may not be available in all instances. If we are not able to offer you a fixed cost package, alternative self-pay options will generally be available.

Additional costs resulting from your stay

Costs for any extras, such as telephone calls, additional newspapers and magazines, visitors’ meals etc. will be invoiced to the patient and must be paid before leaving the hospital. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have, and to assist you in all aspects of the financial side of your treatment.
